Common Chrysler 200 Problems

The Pentastar 3.6L V6 engine is prone to catastrophic cylinder head failure caused by faulty valve seats that crack and fall into the combustion chamber.
The ZF 9-speed automatic transmission exhibits prolonged gear hunting on inclines and refuses to downshift promptly, causing dangerous loss of acceleration when merging.
Persistent engine oil filter housing leaks allow oil to drip onto the exhaust manifold, creating a fire hazard and strong burning oil smell inside the cabin.
The electric power steering rack develops premature internal wear, resulting in loose, vague steering feel and off-center tracking that worsens over time.
Repeated alternator failures cause battery drain and electrical system malfunctions, including flickering headlights and instrument cluster blackouts while driving at night.

Your California Lemon Law Rights

Under California's Song-Beverly Consumer Warranty Act, if your Chrysler 200 has a substantial defect that cannot be repaired after a reasonable number of attempts, you may be entitled to:

  • Full refund of the purchase price
  • Replacement vehicle of comparable value
  • Cash compensation (cash-and-keep settlement)
  • Attorney's fees paid by the manufacturer

Chrysler 200 Lemon Law FAQ

My Chrysler 200 has been in the shop for over 30 days for transmission repairs. Is it a lemon?

Under California's Song-Beverly Act, a vehicle that has been out of service for 30 or more cumulative calendar days due to warranty repairs is presumed to be a lemon. This 30-day threshold applies to total days across all repair visits, not just a single visit, so be sure to keep records of every service appointment.

Can I file a Lemon Law claim if my Chrysler 200 has a known defect that Chrysler has issued a TSB for?

Yes. A Technical Service Bulletin actually strengthens your Lemon Law claim because it shows the manufacturer is aware of the defect. Under the Song-Beverly Act, the existence of a TSB does not excuse the manufacturer from its obligation to repair the vehicle within a reasonable number of attempts.

I financed my Chrysler 200. How does a Lemon Law refund work with a loan?

If your Chrysler 200 qualifies as a lemon under the Song-Beverly Act, the manufacturer must pay off your remaining loan balance as part of the refund. You will also be reimbursed for your down payment and all monthly payments already made, minus a reasonable mileage usage offset calculated from the date of purchase to the first repair attempt.

What if Chrysler claims my 200's problems are caused by my driving habits?

The manufacturer bears the burden of proving that the defect was caused by owner abuse or unauthorized modifications. Normal driving does not void your warranty rights under the Song-Beverly Act. If Chrysler attempts to blame you without evidence, a Lemon Law attorney can challenge this defense and protect your right to a refund or replacement.
