Infiniti Q50 Lemon Law FAQ
My Infiniti Q50 with the VR30DDTT engine keeps going into limp mode. Can I pursue a lemon law claim?
Yes. Repeated limp mode activation due to turbocharger or engine management defects substantially impairs the use, value, and safety of your Q50. Under the Song-Beverly Consumer Warranty Act, if the dealership has been unable to fix this problem after a reasonable number of attempts during the warranty period, you likely have a valid lemon law claim.
Does the Direct Adaptive Steering defect in the Q50 qualify as a safety issue under California Lemon Law?
Absolutely. Steering system failures are among the most serious safety defects recognized under the Song-Beverly Act. Because the Q50 Direct Adaptive Steering is a steer-by-wire system, any electronic malfunction can result in sudden loss of steering control. California law requires fewer repair attempts for defects that could cause death or serious bodily injury, typically just two attempts.
I leased my Infiniti Q50. Am I still protected by California Lemon Law?
Yes. The Song-Beverly Consumer Warranty Act protects both purchasers and lessees of new vehicles in California. If your leased Q50 has a recurring defect that the manufacturer cannot repair, you may be entitled to a refund of all lease payments made, plus your down payment and other fees. The leasing company will also be made whole as part of any settlement or judgment.
Infiniti offered me a goodwill repair for my Q50 timing chain issue. Should I accept it?
You can accept the goodwill repair, but doing so does not waive your lemon law rights under the Song-Beverly Act. Make sure to document the repair in writing and keep all records. If the same defect recurs after the goodwill repair, it strengthens your lemon law claim by demonstrating yet another failed repair attempt. Never sign a release of claims as a condition of a goodwill repair.
