Common Infiniti QX30 Problems

Mercedes-Benz M270 2.0L turbocharged engine (shared platform) exhibiting premature timing chain stretch and tensioner failure, resulting in rough idle, check engine lights with camshaft correlation codes, and potential engine damage if the chain jumps timing.
Seven-speed dual-clutch transmission (DCT) shuddering and jerking during low-speed maneuvers and stop-and-go traffic. The dry clutch packs overheat and glaze, and the mechatronic unit software cannot compensate for the degraded clutch friction material.
Front and rear shock absorber top mounts cracking and failing prematurely, causing knocking sounds over bumps and degraded ride quality. The rubber-bonded mounts separate from their metal housings due to material fatigue exacerbated by the QX30 suspension geometry.
Electrical gremlins in the body control module causing intermittent failures of the keyless entry system, interior lighting, and power window controls. The BCM loses communication on the CAN bus network, requiring dealer-level reprogramming or module replacement.
Turbocharger wastegate rattle at idle and low RPM caused by excessive play in the wastegate actuator arm linkage. The internal wastegate flapper does not seat properly when closed, producing an audible metallic tapping that worsens in cold weather and can lead to boost control faults.

Infiniti QX30 Lemon Law FAQ

My QX30 has a Mercedes-derived engine with timing chain problems. Is Infiniti responsible under California Lemon Law?

Yes. Regardless of which company manufactured the engine components, Infiniti as the vehicle manufacturer and warrantor is fully responsible under the Song-Beverly Consumer Warranty Act. Infiniti issued the factory warranty and is obligated to repair any defects, including those in the M270 engine. The origin of the parts does not relieve Infiniti of its legal obligations.

The dual-clutch transmission in my QX30 shudders badly. The dealer says it needs to adapt to my driving style. Is that true?

While DCT transmissions do have adaptive learning, persistent shuddering and jerking that affects drivability is not a normal adaptation period. Under the Song-Beverly Act, you are not required to accept a vehicle that does not conform to the manufacturers warranty of quality. Continue presenting the vehicle for repair and document each visit, as the dealers repeated dismissal of the problem supports your lemon law claim.

Infiniti discontinued the QX30. Can I still file a lemon law claim in California?

Yes. The discontinuation of the QX30 does not affect your rights under the Song-Beverly Act. Your claim is based on the warranty that was in effect when you purchased the vehicle and when the defects were reported. If a replacement vehicle is warranted, Infiniti must provide a comparable model from their current lineup or offer a full repurchase refund.

What records should I keep for a QX30 lemon law claim in California?

Keep all repair orders, dealer invoices, service receipts, and written communications with Infiniti or the dealership. Also maintain a personal log of each time the defect occurs, including dates, mileage, and a description of the symptoms. Under the Song-Beverly Act, your repair documentation is the foundation of your claim, so request copies of every repair order at each visit.
