Common Porsche Taycan Problems

High-voltage battery (800V lithium-ion Performance Battery Plus) displaying sudden 10-15% state-of-charge drops while parked, traced to defective cell balancing modules in battery slave controllers on modules 5 through 8.
2-speed rear-axle transmission unique to the Taycan producing a grinding noise during low-speed first-to-second gear shifts, caused by worn synchronizer blocker rings that degrade prematurely under regenerative braking loads.
Front electric motor (PSM permanent-magnet synchronous) developing bearing whine above 60 mph due to insufficient grease fill at the factory, requiring motor disassembly and bearing replacement under warranty.
12V auxiliary battery (lithium-ion LFP type) failing to hold charge after firmware updates, resulting in no-start conditions and multiple parasitic drain fault codes in the gateway control module.
Adaptive air suspension compressor relay on the rear axle burning out its contacts from excessive cycling when the vehicle is parked on uneven surfaces with auto-leveling enabled, leaving the car at the lowest suspension setting.

Your California Lemon Law Rights

Under California's Song-Beverly Consumer Warranty Act, if your Porsche Taycan has a substantial defect that cannot be repaired after a reasonable number of attempts, you may be entitled to:

  • Full refund of the purchase price
  • Replacement vehicle of comparable value
  • Cash compensation (cash-and-keep settlement)
  • Attorney's fees paid by the manufacturer

Porsche Taycan Lemon Law FAQ

Does California Lemon Law apply to the Taycan's high-voltage battery defects?

Yes. The Song-Beverly Act covers all components included under the manufacturer's express warranty, and Porsche's Taycan battery warranty covers 8 years or 100,000 miles with a minimum 70% capacity guarantee. A battery defect that causes sudden charge drops or range loss substantially impairs the vehicle's use and value. Each dealer visit for the same battery issue counts as a repair attempt.

My Taycan's 2-speed rear transmission grinds during shifts and the dealer has tried to fix it three times. What are my rights?

After two or more unsuccessful repair attempts for the same substantial defect, California's Song-Beverly Act creates a rebuttable presumption that the vehicle is a lemon. A grinding transmission is clearly a defect that impairs both safety and use. You should consult a lemon law attorney who can send a formal demand to Porsche Cars North America for a repurchase or replacement.

I purchased my Taycan from an out-of-state dealer but I am a California resident. Am I still protected?

The Song-Beverly Act protects California residents regardless of where the vehicle was purchased, as long as the vehicle is primarily used and registered in California. Your Porsche Taycan's factory warranty is honored nationwide, and any California Porsche dealer is obligated to perform warranty repairs. All repair attempts at authorized dealers in any state count toward your lemon law claim.

Can Porsche force me to accept a replacement Taycan instead of a cash refund under California Lemon Law?

No. Under the Song-Beverly Act, the choice between a replacement vehicle and a refund belongs entirely to the consumer. If you prefer a full refund of the purchase price, all finance charges, registration fees, and incidental costs, Porsche cannot force you to accept a replacement. The refund is reduced only by a mileage offset calculated from the first repair attempt.
