Hybrid drivetrain defects that impair the safety, value, or use of the vehicle qualify just like any other powertrain defect. My RLX has been discontinued. Can I still file a lemon law claim?
The discontinuation of the Acura RLX does not affect your rights under the Song-Beverly Act. As long as the defect occurred during the warranty period and you have documented repair attempts, you can pursue a claim regardless of whether the model is still in production. The manufacturer remains responsible for honoring warranties on vehicles it sold even after discontinuing a model line.
Can I lemon law my RLX if the dealer says they are following Acura technical service bulletins?
Yes, the fact that a technical service bulletin exists for your RLX issue actually supports your lemon law claim because it shows the manufacturer is aware of the defect. If the TSB repair procedure does not permanently fix the problem, each additional attempt counts toward your lemon law case under the Song-Beverly Act. A TSB is evidence that the defect is widespread and not caused by owner misuse.
What happens to my loan if my Acura RLX is bought back under lemon law?
Under the Song-Beverly Act, if your RLX qualifies for a buyback, the manufacturer must pay off your remaining loan balance as part of the refund. You would receive back all payments you have made including the down payment and monthly installments, minus the mileage offset. The manufacturer handles the loan payoff directly with your lender so you are not left with any remaining balance.
