Your 718 Cayman may qualify if…
These are common indicators under California's Song-Beverly Act. An attorney reviews the full repair and warranty history before determining whether the firm can take a case.
You bought or leased the vehicle in California.
The problem arose while a manufacturer warranty covered the vehicle.
The dealer has had repeated repair opportunities, or the vehicle has spent significant time in the shop.
The defect continues and substantially affects the vehicle's use, value, or safety.

Why a warranty isn't enough
Your warranty vs. the lemon law
A warranty is a promise to attempt repairs. The lemon law is what protects you when those repairs never stick.
The manufacturer's warranty
- The manufacturer decides which repairs to attempt.
- It only obligates them to keep trying — not to actually fix the problem.
- When the warranty ends, the manufacturer's repair obligation ends.
California's lemon law
- Kicks in when repeated repairs don't fix a substantial defect.
- Can require a refund, a replacement vehicle, or a cash settlement.
- Your legal claim can survive after the warranty ends — if the defect was reported while it was in force.
- When you win, the manufacturer pays your attorney fees — not you.

Porsche 718 Cayman Lemon Law FAQ
My 718 Cayman GT4's 9A2 flat-six has cylinder scoring. Does this qualify under California Lemon Law even though it is a performance vehicle?
The Song-Beverly Act makes no exception for performance or sports vehicles. Cylinder scoring that causes excessive oil consumption is a substantial defect in materials or workmanship regardless of how the vehicle is driven. Porsche cannot deny your warranty claim by alleging track use unless they can prove the defect was caused exclusively by abuse or unauthorized modification.
I bought my 718 Cayman used with remaining factory warranty. Am I covered by the Song-Beverly Act?
Yes. The Song-Beverly Act protects subsequent purchasers who acquire a vehicle with an existing manufacturer's express warranty. As long as your 718 Cayman is still within Porsche's 4-year or 50,000-mile new vehicle limited warranty when the defect appears, you have the same lemon law rights as the original buyer. Keep the purchase agreement and warranty transfer documentation.
The dealer replaced my 718 Cayman's PDK transmission under warranty but it still whines. What is the next step?
A transmission replacement that fails to correct the defect counts as another repair attempt under the Song-Beverly Act. With two or more attempts to fix the same substantial defect, California law presumes the vehicle is a lemon. Contact a lemon law attorney to send a written notice to Porsche, as the manufacturer has one final opportunity to repair before you can demand a buyback.
Can Porsche deduct money for modifications I made to my 718 Cayman in a lemon law buyback?
In a Song-Beverly buyback, Porsche must refund the full purchase price minus only the mileage offset. Aftermarket modifications do not reduce your refund amount, but Porsche is not obligated to reimburse you for the cost of the modifications themselves. You may remove any bolt-on aftermarket parts before returning the vehicle as long as you restore the original components.
